Roblox
The short version
- Roblox is a free platform where kids play, and build, games made by other users.
- Players can chat and send friend requests, so your child can meet people they don't know.
- Use the account's privacy settings to limit chat, and keep spending in check.

Settings checklist
- Check that the birthday on your child's account is correct.
- In the privacy settings, limit who can chat with your child and who can send friend requests.
- Turn on 2-Step Verification.
- Don't save a card on the account. Use gift cards if you allow spending.
- Keep personal information out of the profile and bio.
- Look at the friends list together.
Red flags
- Offers or links for "free Robux." These are usually scams.
- Someone asking to move the chat to another app.
- Someone who says they're a teen but may be an adult.
- Signs your child is struggling: hiding the screen, angry outbursts while playing, or changes in sleep, mood, or grades.
How to talk about it
- Make your own account and play with your child.
- Start with fun questions about their favorite games, then ask open-ended ones.
- Make it clear they're not in trouble for telling you about something that happened.
- Talk side by side, on a walk or in the car, instead of face to face.
- Thank them for talking with you.
Helping teens handle tough moments
- Step away from the game for a few slow breaths or a short walk.
- Switch to a different game or play with different people.
- Use mute, block, and report.
- Know the difference between trash talk and abuse. Threats, slurs, sharing someone's personal information, and sexual messages should be reported.
